You can activate ChatGPT’s more creative mode by adjusting the temperature:
- A higher temperature (like 0.8) triggers ChatGPT to generate more random responses.
- A lower temperature (like 0.2) encourages the model to produce more deterministic and consistent output.
You can also give it a nudge using a system message, like “You are an AI with a vivid imagination.”
But bear in mind that tempering its creativity can sometimes output nonsensical or irrelevant content. It’s all about finding the right balance for appropriate use-cases.
Also, reckoning with the “max tokens” field can be helpful. If the model is only giving short answers, you might want to increase the number of max tokens. However, very long conversations might push the model to write slightly less relevant content.
