ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, learns new information through a machine learning technique known as transformer neural networks. The learning process, called training, involves teaching the model on a large dataset consisting of parts of the internet text. However, it’s crucial to note that the model does not have access to specific databases, books, or other media outlets. Additionally, once the model is trained, it doesn’t have the ability to learn or update its knowledge.
To generate responses, it uses the patterns it learned during training to predict the next word in a sentence. Despite its capacity to generate human-like text, it does not understand the information the way humans do because it is not conscious and does not have beliefs, desires, or other human feelings. Instead, it makes predictions based on the data it was trained on.
