A DNS server is a computer server that contains a database of public IP addresses and their associated domain names. DNS stands for Domain Name System, and it’s what enables users to access websites and other resources on the internet using human-readable domain names instead of the IP addresses that computers use to identify each other. When a user requests access to a particular domain, the DNS server translates that domain name into its corresponding IP address and helps direct the user’s traffic to the appropriate location.
