How does FaaS work?

FaaS (Functions as a Service) works by allowing a developer to upload a piece of code or a function to a cloud provider, wherein the code is executed on-demand, automatically scaled, and charged only for the actual usage. This means that each time a specific function is called, the cloud provider runs the code in a container and allocates necessary resources, such as computing power, memory, and network bandwidth, to execute the code. After the code execution, the container is suspended or terminated, freeing up resources when they are not needed. This allows the user to focus on developing the code they need, without worrying about the underlying infrastructure or server maintenance. FaaS architecture also provides some advanced features, such as triggers, which allow the functions to be invoked automatically when a specific event occurs, and API Gateway, which acts as an interface between the function and the outside world, allowing access to the function over a specific URL.
