What is a man-in-the-middle attack?

A man-in-the-middle attack is a type of cyber attack where an attacker intercepts communication between two parties by positioning themselves between them. The attacker can intercept, steal, or alter data exchanged between the two parties, giving them the ability to read, modify, or inject malicious content into the communication. This can allow the attacker to steal sensitive information, such as login credentials, financial data, or personal data, or even redirect the communication to a different destination altogether without the victims’ knowledge. Man-in-the-middle attacks can occur in various contexts, including email communication, internet browsing, and wireless network connections.
