DNS servers play a crucial role in the HTTP protocol as they are responsible for resolving domain names into IP addresses. When a user types in a URL in their web browser, the browser sends a DNS query to the DNS server to find the IP address of the web server hosting the website associated with the URL. The DNS server then responds with the IP address which is used by the browser to establish a connection with the web server and retrieve the requested webpage.
