How can MAPI be used for instant messaging?

MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) is not typically used for instant messaging (IM). MAPI is an API used by email clients to send and receive emails.

However, MAPI could potentially be utilized by an IM application as a way to send and receive messages. For example, an IM application could use MAPI to send messages as emails that are then delivered as IMs. However, this approach would not be efficient or practical compared to using dedicated IM protocols and technologies.
