What is Google's V8 JavaScript engine in Node.js?

Google’s V8 JavaScript engine is an open-source JavaScript engine developed by Google that is used by Chrome and other various projects. It converts JavaScript code into lower or machine-level code that a computer can run more efficiently, which ultimately leads towards better speed and performance.

In terms of Node.js, Google V8 engine is used as the runtime environment to execute JavaScript code on the server-side. It provides the ability to execute or run JavaScript code outside of a web browser, thereby expanding the capabilities of JavaScript to perform more complex tasks such as file I/O operations, server-side scripting, and database operations. Node.js uses V8 along with various libraries to provide an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model which makes it lightweight and efficient to use.
