A discovery protocol is a set of rules and procedures used by devices to identify and communicate with each other on a network. It allows devices to automatically identify and locate other devices on the same network without the need for manual configuration. Discovery protocols provide a way for devices to exchange information, negotiate settings and protocols, and establish connections. Examples of discovery protocols include the Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) and the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP).
