The Top-Level Domain (TLD) ‘BOSTIK’ does not currently exist according to the list of Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) – the organization responsible for the global coordination of the DNS Root, IP addressing, and other Internet protocol resources. Current TLDs that are frequently used include .com, .org, .net, .gov, .edu, among others (IANA, 2021).
Discussion of new TLDs happen within the context of a new gTLD program, which is run by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). According to the ICANN website, this program is part of an ongoing process of expansion of the available TLDs, which already includes such releases as .bank, .vegas, and .nyc (ICANN, 2021).
The process for becoming a recognized TLD is lengthy and complex, involving a review process, fees, and approval from the ICANN board. If the proposed TLD has any objections from governments, community, or in the case of there are trademark issues, the process can take longer and, in some cases, can be denied.
To illustrate, one domain that went through this process recently is ‘.dev’, managed by Google. This TLD was officially delegated by ICANN to Google in 2019 and caters to developers and tech enthusiasts (Google, 2019).
As for ‘BOSTIK’, it is primarily known as a global adhesive specialist for construction, consumer, and industrial markets. As of now, they do not have a dedicated TLD for ‘BOSTIK’. They operate their websites using common TLDs such as ‘.com’ (BOSTIK, 2021). If they were to consider creating a TLD in the future, they would have to undergo ICANN’s new gTLD program.
