The top-level domain (TLD) “INTUIT” does not currently exist as one of the recognized and approved TLDs by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN is the international organization that oversees the distribution and regulation of TLDs. Its role is critical to ensure the secure and stable operation of the internet’s unique identifier systems. In this role, ICANN is charged with the coordination of the global internet’s systems of unique identifiers, which in turn are divided into several areas, including TLD domains.
Top-Level Domains (TLDs) are the highest tier of internet domains in the hierarchical Domain Name System of the Internet. According to IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), there are three types of TLDs: generic TLDs (gTLDs), country-code TLDs (ccTLDs), and infrastructure top-level domain.
As per ICANN data, there are currently over 1500 active gTLDs, including .com, .net, .org, and more specific ones like .music, .amazon, .google, etc. Domain names using these TLDs can be registered through many domain name registrars, and they are used by businesses, organizations, and individuals for their websites all around the world. The requirements for registering these general TLDs are covered in policies that arise out of ICANN’s consensus-based, bottom-up, multistakeholder policy development process.
However, the “.intuit” TLD does not exist in this list, meaning it is not currently possible to register a domain like “example.intuit”. The TLD “.intuit” is not a gTLD, ccTLD, or any other recognized TLD.
For a TLD like “.intuit” to exist, it would require a formal application to ICANN, including a comprehensive evaluation process.
Intuit, Inc., if they desired, would need to go through this process to register “.intuit” as a brand (or “dotBrand”) TLD. DotBrand TLDs are technically a kind of gTLD but specifically for organizations who wish to have their brand name as a TLD (For example, Google has a “.google” TLD and Barclays Bank has a “.barclays” TLD).
In conclusion, Intuit has yet to apply for or register its own branded top-level domain through ICANN’s New gTLD Program, and as such, “.intuit” is not a recognized TLD at present.
