While thoroughly researching, no reliable and recognized sources definitively state that there is a top-level domain (TLD) under the name “.jot.” A top-level domain (TLD) is the last segment of a domain name, or the part that follows immediately after the “dot” symbol. TLDs are mainly classified into two categories: generic TLDs (such as .com, .net, .edu, .org) and country-specific TLDs (such as .us, .uk, .fr).
According to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), which is a department of ICANN responsible for coordinating parts of the Domain Name System (DNS) to ensure the internet runs smoothly, “.jot” is not listed as a TLD (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, n.d.). ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is an American multistakeholder group and nonprofit organization responsible for coordinating the maintenance and procedures of several databases related to the namespaces and numerical spaces of the internet, ensuring the network’s stable and secure operation (ICANN, n.d.).
A current list of TLDs can be found on IANA’s website, and this includes generic top-level domains (gTLDs), such as .com, .net, .org, and more; country code top-level domains (ccTLDs), such as .uk (for United Kingdom), .au (for Australia), etc.; and infrastructure top-level domains. There are also sponsored top-level domains (sTLDs), which are specialized domains that are represented by different communities (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, n.d.).
In addition to these, with the expansion of the internet space, ICANN has been approving the creation of hundreds of new generic TLDs (nTLDs), and these include .app, .blog, .data, among many others. Companies may also purchase their specific TLDs; for instance, Google owns .google and Amazon owns .amazon. These ones are called brand TLDs.
However, as of this moment, .jot does not exist as a TLD. The closest existing TLD is .jobs, a sponsored TLD introduced in 2005 and is designated for human resource managers (Wikipedia, n.d.). A process exists where interested entities can apply to create new gTLDs through ICANN’s New gTLD Program, though the application and operation process can be long and complex, and involves a significant cost (ICANN, n.d.).
In summary, .jot is not currently a top-level domain as per the authoritative records from IANA and ICANN. However, it is theoretically possible that it could exist in the future if it is created as a new gTLD.
