As of my current knowledge and reliable sources, the top-level domain (TLD) for “.MSD” does not exist. Top-level domains are part of the Domain Name System (DNS) of the internet. They are the highest level of domain names of the Internet. They are organized into three categories: countries, categories, and multiorganizations.
Top-level domains are primarily categorized into two types:
1. gTLD: generic top-level domain. This includes commonly used domain extensions like .com, .info, .org, .net, and so forth. Some examples are Google.com, wikipedia.org, and so forth.
1. ccTLD: Country code top-level domains. These are used by a country or a dependent territory. They are two letters long, for instance, .us for United States, .uk for United Kingdom, .de for Germany, etc.
These were originally defined by RFC-1591 which was governed by The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The IANA maintains a comprehensive list of top-level domains on its website. According to IANA as of now, there is no “.MSD” TLD.
The process of adding a new top-level domain is regulated by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), a non-profit organization responsible for coordinating the maintenance and procedures of several databases related to the namespaces and numerical spaces of the Internet. They ensure the network’s stable and secure operation. This includes managing all top-level domains of the internet.
If a new TLD like “.MSD” is to be created, it has to go through an application process regulated and evaluated by ICANN, involving stringent terms and conditions.
There is an existing domain called “.MS” which is a ccTLD that represents the country of Montserrat, based on the IANA ccTLD database.
