The top-level domain (TLD) : POHL

I’m sorry, but there seems to be a misunderstanding regarding your question. Till now, there is no recognized top-level domain (TLD) named “.pohl”. A top-level domain (TLD) is essentially the last segment of the domain name. These are classified into two categories: generic TLDs (gTLDs) and country-code TLDs (ccTLDs).

Some of the most common gTLDs include “.com”, “.org”, “.net”, “.gov” and “.edu”. The ccTLDs are utilized by a particular country or a territory, for example, “.us” for United States, “.uk” for the United Kingdom, and “.jp” for Japan [source: Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)].

Domain names serve to identify Internet resources, such as computers, networks, and services, with a text-based label that is easier to memorize than the numerical addresses used in the Internet protocols. A domain name may represent entire collections of such resources or individual instances.

As of now, “.pohl” is not a standard domain recognized by ICANN. ICANN is the authorized regulatory body for the domain name system. ICANN understands the complexities of the constantly changing internet and constantly keeps updating the list of internet domain extensions [source: Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)].

However, ICANN has a New gTLD Program which was developed to increase competition and choice by introducing new gTLDs into the Internet’s addressing system [source: ICANN New gTLD Program]. It allows for different businesses, organizations, or even cities to apply for their specific top-level domain.

For example, “.google” is a branded TLD owned by Google. Similarly, “.nyc” is a geographic TLD for New York City [source: ICANN Global Domains Division (GDD)]. Therefore, theoretically, “.pohl” could exist in the future if an entity named Pohl applies for it and successfully goes through the New gTLD Program process.

But as of now, “.pohl” isn’t a recognized TLD, and cannot be used for standard internet operations. Therefore, websites or email addresses cannot be registered under “.pohl”. For these operations, one of the recognized TLDs by ICANN must be used.

In conclusion, TLDs like “.com”, “.org”, “.gov”, “.edu”, along with hundreds of others, are valid according to ICANN. But, “.pohl” is not a known or a standardized top-level domain.
