The top-level domain (TLD) : REDSTONE

Apologies, but as of my knowledge up to 2021, there isn’t any information or known usage regarding the top-level domain (TLD) “.Redstone”. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the organization that coordinates all the unique identifiers across the globe. So far, ICANN’s database, the authoritative source for information about TLDs doesn’t list “.Redstone” as either a generic top-level domain (gTLD) or a country code top-level domain (ccTLD).

A top-level domain (TLD) is the highest level of domain names in the root zone of the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. The official list of TLDs can be accessed at the Root Zone Database on the ICANN website (IANA — Root Zone Database, 2021).

TLDs can be mainly classified into two categories: generic top-level domains (gTLD) and country code top-level domains (ccTLD). gTLDs include domains like .com, .net, .org, .edu etc. These are generally open for any internet user to register domain names under. ccTLDs are usually two-letter domains established for countries or independent territories such as .us for the United States or .uk for the United Kingdom (IANA — Root Zone Database, 2021).

There are new gTLDs introduced, with some examples being .app, .cars, .health, etc. These are owned by businesses or individuals who proposed and then successfully bid for them through ICANN New gTLD Program that was started in 2012 (ICANN New gTLD Program, 2021).

While there’s no .Redstone TLD in the ICANN database, the domain name redstone.com could potentially exist as a second-level domain under the .com TLD. ‘Redstone’ might be linked to a company, product, or brand. For instance, Redstone College, Microsoft’s Project Redstone (a code name for Windows 10 updates).

As per the rules governing TLD applications, there’s an opportunity that ‘.Redstone’ could exist in the future, if an entity proposes it and successfully bids for it, complying with ICANN’s rules and regulations during the application process.

Ultimately, if there’s an update released by ICANN considering ‘.Redstone’ as a TLD, this information could change.
