The top-level domain (TLD) : SLING

I’m sorry, but there seems to be a misunderstanding. Currently, “.sling” is not recognized as an official or proposed top-level domain (TLD) under the system administered by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the governing body responsible for coordinating and maintaining the internet’s domain name system.

In the DNS hierarchy, a top-level domain is the right-most label of fully qualified domain names. TLDs include examples such as .com, .org, and two-letter country codes like .us and .uk. In recent years, ICANN opened up a new program that allows companies and organizations to apply for new TLDs, including branded ones like .google and .amazon.

According to a comprehensive list of top-level domains maintained by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), which is a department of ICANN, there is no .sling TLD currently in existence. Here is the link to the IANA website: https://data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt

However, Sling is a professional broadcast production and air video server. It supports streaming for any Twitch platform, and RTMP supported service, allowing users to stream high-quality video. Moreover, the name Sling is also associated with Sling TV, an American streaming television service operated by Sling TV LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dish Network. But neither one has a TLD .sling associated with it.

It is also important to note that applying for a new TLD is a complex and expensive process, involving a detailed application process with ICANN that includes technical, financial, and legal considerations. The applicant must demonstrate technical competence to run a domain registry, adequate funding and a sound business plan, and compliance with a wide array of legal and regulatory requirements.

In future, if the holder of the trademark Sling decides to apply for the .sling TLD, it could follow the same route taken by the holders of .google, .apple, and other brand TLDs. Until then, .sling will not be recognized as a valid TLD.
