The top-level domain (TLD) : STCGROUP

I’m sorry, but there seems to be a misunderstanding. “.stcgroup” is not recognized as a top-level domain (TLD).

A TLD refers to the last segment of a domain name, or the part that follows immediately after the “dot” symbol. TLDs are mainly classified into two categories: generic TLDs and country-specific TLDs. Some examples of generic TLDs include .com, .org, .net, while some examples of country-specific TLDs include .us for the United States, .uk for United Kingdom, .jp for Japan and so on.

Top-level domains are managed and registered by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) which is a department of ICANN, an organization tasked to keep the internet secure, stable, and interoperable. ICANN generates the list of available TLDs and ensures that they are unique and not duplicated.

Performing a search check within the IANA database (source: data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt), there is no “.stcgroup” TLD registered currently. A company or any entity can apply for a new TLD but it has to go through a rigorous assessment and review process by ICANN. It is also an expensive process, costing upwards of $185,000 to apply for ownership of a custom top-level domain (source: ICANN website at newgtlds.icann.org)

Most often, STC Group refers to a business entity. For example, STC Group is the largest telecommunication providers in the Middle East and North Africa. Its domain for the English website is www.stc.com.sa where “.com.sa” is the TLD.

Here “.sa” serves as the country code TLD (ccTLD) for Saudi Arabia and “.com” is a second-level domain (SLD) with the “stc” being a subdomain. Hence, the complete www.stc.com.sa is not a TLD, nor is it specified as “.stcgroup”. It’s always having ‘stc’ as the subdomain and ‘.com.sa’ as the TLD. Subdomains and second-level domains are an extension of the TLD (source: IANA, www.ICANN.org).

In conclusion, “.stcgroup” is not a recognized TLD. STC Group is a business that uses a domain with a different TLD (‘.com.sa’). Only the ICANN can designate new TLDs, and any entity willing to apply a new one has to undergo a comprehensive application process involving significant costs.
