DRS (Dynamic Resource Scheduling) is a feature in vSphere that automatically balances virtual machine workloads across hosts in a cluster, ensuring optimal performance and efficient resource utilization. DRS monitors and analyzes the resource usage of each virtual machine and dynamically adjusts their placement and allocation to optimize resource utilization and improve workload performance.
To configure DRS in vSphere, follow these steps:
1. Log in to the vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client.
1. Navigate to the cluster you want to enable DRS for and select the cluster.
1. Click on the “Configure” tab and then select “DRS” from the left-hand menu.
1. Click on “Edit” in the top-right corner to enable DRS.
1. In the DRS Settings menu, configure the following options as desired:
- Automation level: This determines the level of automation for DRS, ranging from manual to fully automated.
- Migration threshold: This sets the threshold for migrating virtual machines between hosts, based on resource usage.
- CPU and memory resources: This sets the reservation and limit for CPU and memory resources.
1. Click “OK” to save the DRS configuration.
Once DRS is enabled and configured for a cluster, it will automatically balance virtual machine workloads across hosts as needed, ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization.
