What is Proof-of-History?

Proof-of-History is a consensus algorithm developed by the Solana blockchain network that utilizes a sequence of verifiable delay functions (VDF) to achieve a more efficient and scalable process for recording transactions. Instead of relying on traditional proof-of-work or proof-of-stake mechanisms, Proof-of-History uses a time-based approach to order and validate transactions, allowing for faster and more secure execution. The VDFs used in Proof-of-History are designed to be computationally intensive, making it difficult for attackers to manipulate the chain and ensuring the verifiability and integrity of the blockchain’s history.
