How to Configure Discussion Settings in WordPress?

Sure. Here are the technical steps to configure discussion settings in WordPress:

1. Login to your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Settings > Discussion.
3. Check the options that you want to enable or disable.
4. Click Save Changes to save your settings.

Let’s discuss each option in detail:

Default article settings:
- Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article: This option sends a pingback to other blogs or websites that you have linked to in your article. If you want to be notified when someone links to your post, you can check this option.
- Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks): This option allows other blogs to link to your post and notify you when they do so.
- Allow people to submit comments on new posts: This option enables comments for new posts by default. You can uncheck this option if you don’t want to allow comments on your posts.

Other comment settings:
- Comment author must fill out name and email: This option requires commenters to provide their name and email address before they can leave a comment.
- Users must be registered and logged in to comment: If you want to limit commenting to registered users only, you can check this option.
- Automatically close comments on articles older than X days: This option allows you to automatically close comments on posts that are older than a specified number of days.
- Enable threaded (nested) comments X levels deep: This option allows readers to reply to other readers’ comments. You can set how many levels deep you want threaded comments to go.
- Break comments into pages with X top level comments per page and the X page displayed by default: This option divides long comment threads into pages. You can specify how many top-level comments should be displayed per page, as well as the default number of pages to display.

Email me whenever:
- Anyone posts a comment: This option sends you an email notification whenever anyone posts a comment on your site.
- A comment is held for moderation: This option sends you an email notification whenever a comment is held for moderation.
- Someone likes one of my posts: This option sends you an email notification whenever someone likes one of your posts.

Before a comment appears:
- Comment must be manually approved: This option requires you to approve comments before they appear on your site.
- Comment author must have a previously approved comment: This option allows commenters who have had a comment approved before to bypass moderation.

These are the technical steps to configure discussion settings in WordPress. You can experiment with these options to find the settings that work best for your site.
